Brother HL-2170 review : I bought this printer for the purpose of regular text printing. I was thinking to myself, that if I were to just mainly use my printer for text printing, I would rather get a black and white laser printer than a colored and more expensive inkjet type. Since I estimated that the costs of the inkjet refills are far greater with the colored cartridges to take into consideration, I finally made up my mind to get a low cost laser printer.

I had a hard time looking for the right laser printer that would suit me. Hence, I ended up with the Brother HL-2170W Laser Printer as an advice from one of the retailers. I had no reason to doubt him since I have heard from my friends that the Brother brand is really reliable. Form factor wise, I also think that this laser printer is very compact at only 6.7 inches high and 14.5 inches wide.

When I first got everything out of its packaging, I got this Brother laser printer set up so easily that I now forgot how I did it in the first place. I tried my first prints with an actual document and I was very pleased with the results. The Brother laser printer itself is very versatile. It can connect through the computer via a USB 2.0, an Ethernet cable or using the 802.11b/g wireless connection. Getting a good printer with this kind of connectivity is a bit rare these days.

Brother 2170w Laser Printer Advantages

1. The black and white prints are very sharp and clear just as I wanted them to be.

2. The printing speed is really quite something. It can max out on 17.48 ppm with black text documents.

3. The 32Mb of internal memory of this Brother 2170w Laser Printer makes it possible for me to line up more documents in its cache without the fear of slowing down its processes and eventually crash it.

Brother 2170w Laser Printer Disadvantages

1. One of the disappointments I had with the Brother HL-2170W is the lack of the auto duplex function. It means it cannot print on both sides of the paper in one go.

2. In addition, make sure that you do not expect too much if you use this Brother laser printer to print a photo in black and white. The graphics capability of this printer is somewhat of low quality.

All good things considered, I can say that I love my new Brother 2170w black and white laser printer, hence it comes highly recommended It saves me money since it delivers its promise of good black and white text prints expected from it. Just make sure that you don’t set high expectations from it as a graphics printer. Other than that I can surely say this Brother 2170w Laser Printer meets my needs and my expectations.
